This is the reason why I started this blog and why I believe it is so important that others students become "SVs" at least once in their college years. I don't get pay and I don't get anything else out of doing this other than let you find a new way to get inspire and reach your goals in an industry that we love. Aquí estaba yo disfrutando mi experiencia como Estudiante Voluntario en SIGGRAPH Asia Seúl 2010, cuando como siempre me propuse encontrar un Latino representándonos. Durante mi caminada en la Exhibición no encontré ninguna compañía Latina; ninguno de los puestos fantásticos que estoy acostumbrada ver en Los Estados Unidos de países como Colombia, México, Costa Rica. Pero el dia siguiente decidí tratar de por lo menos conseguir una entrevista interesante cuando diez pies delante de mi escuche a alguien hablando Español. Era el puesto de La Carnegie Mellon Japón ETC Global y lo que mas me sorprendió fue ver que dos Hispanos estaban representando la institución, una dama Española y un Mexicano, el Dr. Salvador Barrera Aldana.
Aquí esta lo que el Dr. Barrera tenia para contarnos sobre su experiencia en SIGGRAPH y Carnegie Mellon.

Here I was having a great time as a Student Volunteer in SIGGRAPH Asia Seoul 2010 but like always I was determined to find a Latino representing us! During my walk at the Exhibition Hall, I was hoping to find some Latino booths but on my first day I was disappointed I didn’t see anyone; none of the amazing booths that I am used to see in the U.S. from countries like Colombia, Mexico and Costa Rica were there. The next day I try to find someone to interview just to have something fun to show when I heard words in Spanish coming out of booth 10 feet away. It was the booth for Carnegie Mellon Japan ETC Global and to my surprise the two people representing it where a Spanish lady and a Mexican professor named Dr. Salvador Barrera Aldana.

SIGGRAPH 2010
Este año en Los Angeles, como todos afirman, cuando es en Los Angeles SIGGRAPH es espetacular y puedo confirmar que es verdad!
E-Tech fue increible desde luces con logos en las ruedas de las bicicletas que projectaban una fiesta de luz, hasta unos lentes virtuales que tenian unos tubos que paraban al frente de la nariz creando olores differentes para hacer la mente creer que comias galletas de diferentes sabores, "y funciono!"
La Exibicion como todo los años estubo buenicima, pero la are de la Feria de Trabajo mostro la realidad de los tiempos con solo al rededor de diez compañias, con limitadas ofertas de trabajo. Pero no importa por que si durante la conferencia fuiste inteligente y trataste de entablar conversacion con extraños probablemente, como yo, pudiste hacer buenas conecciones.
Los Latinos no se quedaron atras y tubimos una buena reunion donde conicimos profesionales de Chile, Costa Rica, Republica Dominicana, Venezuela, Mexico entre otros. Y como es costumbre desde el año pasado estas personas se añadieron a la lista de datos SIGGRAPH LATINO AMERICA.

Y yo pude disfrutar de la fiesta que hizo nuestro Chair de SIGGRAPH 2010, Terrence Mason, para el cual tube el privilegio de trabajar durante un año en Northeastern University en Boston.

Today was the final presentation of one of the most exciting projects I have ever been part of!
This is an unique visual representation of data for the past 36 years of SIGGRAPH and hoping to include the 37th "this year 2010 for those who don't know".
I've never seen a group of students working so hard and caring so much a about a class assignment, but these past two semesters I have enjoy the results of their painful and sleepless long hours at the school lab.
For those who are going to be at SIGGRAPH this year, you will get the chance to learn more about some of the great projects I got the chance to see develop for the past eight months.
